UEA MA Literary Translation and Poetry Anthology 2025

Everything is translation. This was both a running joke and shared conviction of the MALT 2025 cohort. From shuffling a pack of cards to turning a painting into a poem, they have come to see translation everywhere. Now, with translations from Ancient Greek, Japanese, French, Taiwanese Mandarin, Italian and Vietnamese, this collection showcases their work across drama, prose and poetry.

Rooted in the innerworkings of language and its complex effect on the reader, poetry and translation share much in common. This year’s anthology offers a wide range of experiments with voice, form and language. From elegy to ecopoetry, humour to history, the bodily to the technological, the poetry collected here is rich and diverse with something for everybody. Read about fitbits and fungi, public transportation and overheard conversations; reflections of both the mundane and the mythological, experiences of the visceral and the cosmic.

With forewords by Forward Poetry Prize-winning poet Denise Riley and acclaimed translator and author Kate Briggs, this anthology ushers in a new generation of translators and poets from the University of East Anglia.
