A pipefitter is a tradesperson who installs, assembles, fabricates, maintains, and repairs mechanical piping systems. Plumbers, pipefitters, and steamfitters learn on the job through an apprenticeship, but also go through licensing and accreditation. The pipefitting industry is expected to grow 21% from 2012 to 2022, faster than the average for all occupations.
