English Summary:

Munich is a 2005 historical drama film produced and directed by Steven Spielberg and written by Tony Kushner and Eric Roth. It is based on the book Vengeance (1984), an account of Operation Wrath of God, the Israeli government's secret retaliation against the Palestine Liberation Organization after the Munich macre at the 1972 Summer Olympics.

At the 1972 Munich Olympics, the Palestinian group Black September eleven members of the Israeli Olympic team. Avner Kaufman, a Mossad agent of German-ish descent, is chosen to lead a mission to inate 11 Palestinians allegedly involved in the macre. At the direction of his handler Ephraim, to give the Israeli government plausible deniability, Avner resigns from Mossad and operates with no official ties to Israel. His team includes four ish volunteers from around the world: South African driver Steve, Belgian toy-maker and explosives expert Robert, former Israeli soldier and "cleaner" Carl, and Danish document forger Hans. They are given information by a French informant, Louis.

München basiert auf der wahren Geschichte der israelischen Reaktion auf die Geiselnahme von München (1972), bei der ein Kommando des Schwarzen Septembers elf Mitglieder der israelischen Olympiamannschaft tötete. Vorwiegend wird die Tätigkeit einer Einheit des Mossad gezeigt, welche im Auftrag der israelischen Regierung die direkt und indirekt für den Anschlag Verantwortlichen tötet. Der Film vermischt Fakten mit Erfundenem, lässt historische Personen mit fiktiven Charakteren interagieren. Spielberg selbst bezeichnete den Film als „fiktiv“ und berief sich auf seine „künstlerische Freiheit“, Geschichten zu erzählen.
