Mentre prepara con rigore una rapina alla gioielleria Van Cleef & Arpels a Cannes insieme al complice Charlot, il gangster Simon s'innamora ricambiato dell'antiquaria Françoise, il cui negozio si trova proprio accanto al luogo da ripulire. La storia decolla ma non la rapina, che si risolve con la fuga di Charlot e l'arresto di Simon. Scarcerato dopo alcuni anni, l'uomo deve ricongiungere i pezzi, recuperare i gioielli e rinsaldare il legame con Françoise, che intanto lo ha tradito. La polizia attende il passo falso.
