In den frühen Siebzigerjahren formierte sich in Rom eine Band, die mit Jazz und englischem Progressive Rock experimentierte: Spirale. Mit Unterstützung von Mario Schiano, dem Vater des italienischen Free Jazz, konnte die Band ihr erstes Album aufnehmen, das heute noch ein begehrtes Sammler-Objekt ist. Zahllose Auftritte erhöhten den Bekanntheitsgrad. Nach Jahrzehnten, in denen die Bandmitglieder unterschiedliche Interessen verfolgten, die in illustren Kooperationen zwischen Ennio Morricone, Angelo Branduardi und Eros Ramazotti Niederschlag fanden, hat sich Spirale in nahezu originaler Besetzung reformiert, um 50 Jahre nach dem ersten ein neues Album einzuspielen.
