Jean Wiéner spans the entire 20th century. He was the man who introduced jazz to French music, the author of the "Chicken reel" from Histoires sans parole and the harmonica tune from Touchez pas au grisbi. But this pupil of Fauré also embodied the French composition school of the 1920s/1930s, championing Satie, Milhaud and Poulenc. His output combines the beauty of typically French sonority with rhythms from America. It is this genius with a thousand faces that Denis Pascal evokes here, with a rhythmic verve that never sacrifices the writing quality of the great Jean Wiéner.
