Starcar Sunday is a female-fronted rock-pop band from Denver. If Gin Blossoms had two women as lead singers and crossed themselves with No Doubt, they might sound something like this. Their self-titled, debut album will have you reflecting on your place in the universe, love, loss, overcoming obstacles, and, of course, giving the middle finger to your ex. Lead vocalists Carla Weikel and Dayna Geiger have been singing together for several years. Their unexpected musical journey began in 2005, in a community theatre production of Little Shop of Horrors. Carla and the show's director had been looking for a backup singer for their band. It was immediately clear that Dayna was the right choice, due to the girls' knack for harmonies and effortless blend on stage. It didn't take long for Dayna to get promoted, and the ladies began sharing lead vocals. Over the years, Carla and Dayna went from barely knowing each other to borrowing each other's clothes and finishing each other's thoughts. Through their special gift for challenging each other, offering endless encouragement and occasional brutal honesty, they grew as singers and developed into songwriters. The urge to write and perform their own material eventually inspired them to leave the nest, bringing with them bass player Brian A.C. Soon, these three joined forces with guitarist Ryan Miller and drummer Billy Small, to form the band that is now called Starcar Sunday. The band's lively shows are often sprinkled with sarcasm, touching moments, dirty jokes and secret handshakes. Enjoy!
