An accordion trio has a fascinating potential for the evocation of a huge palette of timbres and dynamics. These are abundantly employed for the varied and enthralling programme recorded here. There are transcriptions after orchestral originals, demonstrating this ensembles capability to evoke a full orchestras sounds; Schnittkes homages to Stravinsky and Gogol are performed here. Other works include Petri Makkonens Longing for Primitivity, whereby "primitive" atmospheres are suggested by the use of unusual means of sound production; Krzysztof Olczaks Maestoso Mesto, whose rich emotional palette matches its gorgeous instrumentation; ArarÓ, a colourful dance by Finnish composer Kimmo Hakola; Dissoluzioni by Gyula Bankovi, entirely based on the idea of de-composition and re-composition; the spectacular and utterly virtuosic Toccata Barbara by Vjaceslav Semenov, and Pawel Baraneks colourful First Day of Spring.
