DESCRIPTION

Serge Prokofiev (1891-1953): Sonata for violin and piano n°1 Op.80 in fa min - Anthony Girard (1959-*): Sonata for violin and piano "Behin the Light" Noise, fury of war, unleashing of madness, tyranny… The twentieth century was a century of shadow. Metal and steel, hatred and death drew a setting that men wanted to forget. Their music bears traces of the crash, the pain of exile and persecution. As night succeeds day, the beginning of the century that follows yearns for peace. So that the shadow fades under the light. So that the world can take its breath again, that humanity can take back its rights. So that time may stretch again and the songs that inhabit it may be sweet. Harmony allows these accents of peace. Music, serenity and poetry can celebrate their reunion. Sergey Prokofiev knew the dark times always ready to resurface. Anthony Girard paints the light that we hope will illuminate this century. This record shows that duality. Prokofiev's sonata was written between 1938 and 1946 and seems directly related to the Russian history of his time. Let us recall some facts. In the 1920s, Prokofiev was political exile like many other artists. He was offered by the USSR all sorts of financial benefits that prompted him to return: he returned to Moscow in 1932. However, a few years later, between 1936 and 1937, the so-called "Great Terror" period began during which 700,000 Soviets lost their lives. Among them were friends of the composer such as Vladimir Mutnykh, the director of the Bolshoi who commissioned him Romeo and Juliet or Adrian Piotrovsky, co-librettist of the libretto. It was therefore a year after this tragic period that he composed his sonata, or at least that he sketched out some features.
