There are so many fine Pagliaccis available that this one really should have something great to offer if it is to compete. What will make the difference to the buyer is the tenor Richard Tucker. Some may love his secure, ringing tone and over-emotionalising, while others may find his bawling and hamming awful. The little-known Mietta Sighele is a very fine Nedda, singing with conviction and pleasing tone, but baritone Kari Nurmela simply lacks the real Italianate voice needed for Tonio's music.
