Marilyn Castilaw is a veteran singer / songwriter, with a rich and varied history. This soulful collection finds Marilyn playing keyboards and singing in the intimate setting at a studio on Orcas island . From the Black Hills of South Dakota, Marilyn made her way to the dense streets of New York City, singing in clubs and recording studios. Marilyn Castilaw was the vocalist for legendary drummer jimmy Cobb who was best known for his work with Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Cannonball Adderly. Marilyn sang backing vocals for Dik Darnell, producer for the late, great Buddy Redbow, Lakota singer and songwriter. With these powerful and seemingly un connected influences, her songs reflect the nature all around us. A passion for our planet and stories that remember the mystery that surrounds us. With producer and a veteran singer herself, Susan Osborn ( a friend and musical collaborator since high school ) captures the sound with a great respect for the listener, she leaves room for individual to have their own experience of it. The music bobs an weaves without regard to formal structure and yet the architecture is there. Seemingly simple in instrumentation, keyboards and drum, and with a voice that lays it bare in honesty, Marilyn delivers a brave and brilliant new pathway taking aim straight at the heart.
