For the first time in its unprecedented and now five-album series, Music from the O.C. will be catapulted by the first on-show performance that is also the track to radio from a Music From the O.C. album. With The Subways' "Rock & Roll Queen" leading the way, alongside new and recent tracks from such cutting edge artists as the Shout Out Louds, Imogen Heap, LCD Soundsystem and Phantom Planet, Music from the O.C.: Mix 5 is a smart, sharp, indie-alt-modern rock from what is the musically hippest show on TV. Music From The OC: Mix 5 folgt konsequent der Philosophie der vier voran gegangenen Soundtracks zur großartigen amerikanischen TV-Serie: Newcomer stehen neben etablierten Bands, Helden des Augenblicks neben kaum bekannten Musikern. Josh Schwartz ließ es sich nicht nehmen, auch an der Zusammenstellung von Music From The OC: Mix 5 mitzuwirken. Der Regisseur von O.C., California beweist zusammen mit seiner Crew einmal mehr ein großes Gespür für klasse und angesagte Songs. Dabei wäre es so leicht gewesen, sich große Namen auf den Soundtrack zu holen, doch Music From The OC: Mix 5 überrascht erneut durch seine Liebe zum Underground. Die furiose Eröffnung bestreiten mit den Jung-Rockern The Subways und Kasabian zwei englischen Gruppen. Die Shout Out Louds aus Stockholm schlagen in Wish I Was Dead Pt.2 dann etwas ruhigere, sehr schöne und melodiöse Gitarre-meets-Electronic Töne an. Mit soviel Eleganz wollen LCD Soundsystem natürlich dienen, da pluckern die Beats in Daft Punk Is Playing In My House schon etwas dreckiger. Gewohnt guten Gitarren-Rock steuert das Seattle-Label Sub Pop bei, die Rogue Wave mit Publish My Love ins Rennen schicken. Youth Group aus Sydney entpuppen sich mit einer Coverversion von Forever Young als australische Version von Death Cab For Cutie. Zu Of Montereal, Gorillaz, Phantom Planet (mit einem neuen Mix von California) und den Kaiser Chiefs muss nichts mehr gesagt werden. Die Stars aus Toronto zeigen, dass es neben Arcade Fire oder Broken Social Scene noch mehr herrlichen Gitarren-Musik zu entdecken gibt. Das Finale bestreitet die Britin Imogen Heap (die eine Hälfte von Frou Frou) mit ihrer bildschönen Stimme, die sich in Soundscapes verliert. Wie hätte es anders sein sollen?
