The teenaged Freya and her family escape the Torquemada-run Inquisition and flee from Spain, first to Portugal and then to Belgium. Tonya, whose mother died in childbirth, embarks on a dangerous quest to find her father in a devastated Ukraine during the Cossack pogroms. The young bride Necha witnesses the murder of most of her family and neighbors and fights for survival during the Holocaust. Readers will learn about the difficult times in which each of these young women lived, and the faith and courage that saw them through their ordeals.
