Along the way she meets an assortment of bizarre and demented characters including: Guy Secretan (Stephen Mangan), the smooth talking part-Swiss anaesthetist and all-round misogynist; Dr. Alan Statham (the ever-excellent Mark Heap), possibly one of the kinkiest doctors on the ward (that's saying a lot too!), a man whose affliction is to think out loud (something that the cheeky intern Boyce likes to exploit quite frequently); then there's the dashing, but aloof, Dr. 'Mac' Macartney (Julian Rhind-Tutt), whom Caroline may or may not have a big-time crush on. 'Een nieuwe uitdaging', denkt dokter Caroline Todd hoopvol als ze voor het eerst ongekamd en ongewassen de oprijlaan van haar nieuwe werkplek oprijdt: het plaastselijke ziekenhuis om de hoek. Maar dat du uitgaging zó groot en shockerend zou zijn, had Caroline nooit kunnen bevroeden. Ze krijgt namelijk te maken met de meest eigenaardige collega's Guy Secretan bijvoorbeeld, een arrogante anesthesist met een vlotte babbel en grote verhalen over seksuele escapades, die haar diezelfde avond nog probeert te versieren. En wat te denken van de knappe, jonge chirurg 'Mac' Macartney, die met zijn oversekste collega's de vreemdste weddenschappen afsluit en spelletjes doet in de operatiekamer. Of dokter Alan Statham, een oudere, verknipte radioloog die zich seksueel sterk aangetrokken voelt tot de wispelturige Joanna Clore, hoofd van de HR-afdeling.
