English summary: This study represents the first scientific study of the kidnappings of West Germans and West Berliners by the East German Stasi authorities. It also analyzes the methods and function of this practice. To this very day it is little known that the East German Stasi authorities abducted some 400 people from West Berlin and West Germany in the 1950s and 1960s. Many returned home only after months, sometimes years, and some disappeared without a trace. The methods of the Stasi ranged from perfidious deceptions to street attacks. This study employs the extensive archival materials to illuminate this relatively unknown chapter in the relations between the two German states. It thus contributes to research on the history of political violence and its perpetrators. German description: Auf offener Strasse brutal uberfallen, in vertrauter Umgebung betaubt und entfuhrt oder durch perfide Tauschungen auf DDR-Gebiet gelockt und rechtswidrig festgehalten. Etwa 400 Menschen teilen ein Schicksal: Sie wurden in den 1950er und 1960er Jahren aus der Bundesrepublik und vor allem aus West-Berlin in die DDR verschleppt und dort inhaftiert. Viele kehrten erst nach Wochen, Monaten oder gar Jahren aus der DDR-Haft zuruck. Manche verschwanden fur immer. Verantwortlich fur die Entfuhrungsaktionen war in erster Linie das Ministerium fur Staatssicherheit (MfS), das anfangs unter Anleitung des sowjetischen Geheimdienstes agierte. Es ist ein unbekanntes Kapitel der deutschen Teilungsgeschichte. Auf Grundlage zahlreicher MfS-Akten und bundesdeutscher Unterlagen analysiert die Studie die Mechanismen und Funktion der Entfuhrungspraxis des MfS.
