Throughout the 1920s and 30s, card games such as Whist, and its derivative Spades, Gin Rummy and Bridge were popular, alongside classic casino games, including 21 and Poker, which could be played at home. Dressing up, sipping cocktails and staying in to play cards became ‘a la mode’, especially among young people as a statement against the Temperance Movement.

Art Deco Playing Cards celebrates the fashions and designs of this era, with two decks of 54 cards featuring beautiful fashion illustrations by George Barbier, one of the most lauded illustrators of the 20th century.
