They asked ordinary Japanese people to share their views on foreign residents, using their responses to shed light on Japanese political behaviour. Do patriotic statements reflect hostile attitudes to foreign residents? To what extent do Japanese nationals support the extension of their rights to foreigners? How can we understand political and social exclusion? In examining these issues, the book reveals the links between voter behaviour and personal orientations towards nationalism, neo-liberalism, populism, and the rights of foreigners, among other attitudes.
