GlasgowClassics Professor Andy Gallagher had always believed that his grandfatherJohn, a Commando, had been killed in Crete during the War.  Andy Gallagher finds himself balancing hiscareer in Classics with being a devoted father to his daughter Eilidh amid adifficult separation.

.

ThenAndy’s father, Michael, receives a letter out of the blue saying that John haddied only a few weeks ago in Crete, leaving a box of important papers for hisson to collect. Michael is shattered to learn that his father had been alivefor decades after the War, but had never contacted his family back home. Andy,a Greek speaker, goes to Crete to collect the box and finds that it containsJohn’s wartime journal.  The journal not only exposes theruthless political manoeuvring that shaped the island’s wartime fate but alsopoints to a long-buried treasure hidden deep within the White Mountains, secrets that, even decades later, some are willing to kill to protect.
As he delves deeper, Andy unearths an age-old mystery of buried treasure, wartime deceit, and long-held vendettas. What he initially believes to be asimple quest for answers quickly turns into a perilous journey, forcing him tonavigate the complex history of the Cretan Resistance during Nazi occupationand the vital role Scottish soldiers played in it.
Andy starts searching for the cave, unaware that heis being followed. His quest has rekindled toxic wartime Cretan vendettas andput his life in mortal peril.
