Ian Sutherland is glad to help when brother and sister Enzoand Rita Hasani are forced from their Kosovan homeland and end up in NorthYorkshire where they claim asylum. But not all refugees are hardworkingentrepreneurs. Some are criminals looking to exploit their hosts.

Ian soon finds himself at odds with Spartak, a paramilitaryleader from the Kosovan Liberation Army, and facing old adversaries from hispast.

Someone is manipulating things in the background. Could itbe MI6 spymaster, Simon Black?

Against a backdrop of tobacco smuggling and moneylaundering, Ian takes on Kosovan thugs, a warlord and his nemesis seekingrevenge. But others want revenge too while GCHQ and an ex-SAS operative try tolevel the playing field.

And somewhere in all this is Inga with her ice blonde hairand alternative sense of fashion. But does anyone know who she really is?

For Enzo and Rita, the UK is their refuge, but can a coat bea refuge? Or even make-up? Everyone is trying to leave the past behind them andfind a place of safety. It is what they do when they get there that counts.
