McClane's life is spiralling the drain, but he's willing to help Madeline because her quest seems righteous and he's looking for a little redemption. Together, they drive to San Douglas and confront crooked cops, stuntmen-turned-thugs, and a mysterious winery owner with something big to hide.

As they investigate, Dash and Madeline form a deep bond over their shared losses and a cynical view of the world. They become quite a pair: resourceful, cunning, and relentlessly sarcastic. They'll need to rely on each other as their situation turns increasingly deadly. Fortunately, McClane knows a little something about unearthing old secrets-and this isn't the first time he's had guns fired at him.
