Mimicking the standard sports biography format, the book explores the highs and lows of his remarkable and often controversial career both on and off the pitch. Absolutely Huge is a spoof biography of a fictional Welsh rugby player, Gethin ‘Huge’ Hughes. In the standard sports biography format, it takes the reader through the highs and lows of his career and his personal life. And Huge has a lot of ups and downs.

A stunning international debut is followed by further glory for his region, Wales and the Lions, and by the age of 24 Huge is on top of the world. He’s the biggest star in Welsh rugby, is voted Second Best Welshman Ever, launches his own range of energy drinks and dates the ‘nation’s sweetheart’ Heledd Harte.

But a serious injury leads to 18 months out of the game. Inactivity doesn’t suit Huge: a disastrous appearance on an agriculture-based reality show is followed by a brush with death on Mount Snowdon, ill-advised comments about fellow Welsh internationals, getting arrested, breaking up with Heledd Harte, getting voted Second Worst Welshman Ever and going bankrupt.

This book is an affectionate satire on Welsh rugby and the media hype surrounding it. Obviously Huge’s career nods towards Gavin Henson, but also Mike Phillips and other recent superstars, though no real names are used.
