The Moon Belongs to Everyone is a ‘meditation on the contemporary experience of migration, ofshifting continents, and fractured mindsets.’ Mehrfar’s work acts as an allegory for anincreasingly ubiquitous, non-specific, global identity; an unidentifiable position she found herself inafter immigrating to Australia. ‘The Moon Belongs to Everyone attempts to visualize these contemporary global citizens—individuals whose identities are no longer defined by national borders, but rather by the experienceof migration. The subjects included in the project hail from different parts of the world. They don’tknow one another, nor do they share the same heritage. But they have all found themselves caughtin a similar liminal space — hovering somewhere between there and here.’
