When Ethel Haythornthwaite (then Gallimore) founded the Sheffield Association for the Protection of Local Scenery in 1924, she set in motion a constant battle for the countryside we enjoy today. These are some of the many successes celebrated in these pages.

• Longshaw was bought for the National Trust.
• Halting a motor racing circuit in the White Peak.
