Policing is a hazardous, demanding and emotionally charged role that’s performed by officers every day to protect people from harm and danger.

Rod Rose highlights the ways officers understand the nuances within everyone to ensure that people can integrate within society without fear or favour. It’s essential that we can live in our society safe in the knowledge we have the support of people who care about our physical and mental welfare, and who can deal with any problems and dangers we may encounter. Police officers perform this role.

Rod explores where, as children and adults, many issues affect the way we see the world and how that impacts us in life.

The Real World takes the reader on a journey through some of the many challenges any one of us may be confronted with and seeks to highlight how these are dealt with by that essential member of the community, the British police officer.

Mainly unarmed, their greatest weapon being communication, officers face personal threats daily to ensure the security of every one of us, working to ensure we aren’t caught up in ‘The Real World’, a very different place police officers live in, every time they put on their uniform.
