In a world echoing the textures and tensions of 1950s America, ardent pacifist Carney Caldwell is arrested for allegedly injuring his closest friend: an act he cannot remember. After a week in jail, he wakes in a hospital under sedation, trying to piece together the events that led to his breakdown: the quiet collapse of his childhood gang, the Arch Angels, his unspoken love for Dakota, their ill‑fated brush with forbidden substances, and the slow drift of his mind toward fear, confusion, and lost reality.

During his recovery, an enigmatic radio salesman visits Carney’s bedside and introduces a strange new treatment called “distraction therapy.” Through it, Carney hears the story of Doran, a shy orphan boy living on the planet’s other continent. It is a tale filled with uncanny parallels to his own. As the narrative unfolds, Carney begins to question not only his identity, but the nature of his world, and the truths he once believed were unshakeable.
