Richard is a middle-aged Englishman who runs a B&B in the fictional Val de Follet in the Loire Valley. Nothing ever happens to Richard, and really that’s the way he likes it.

Richard and Valérie reluctantly accompany Martin and Gennie to Paris to celebrate their wedding anniversary, where an evening at the Folies Bergère cabaret takes an unexpected turn.

Gennie bears an uncanny resemblance to Margaret Kelly, the legendary founder of the Bluebell Girls, whose bronze memorial bust disappeared on the same night as the notorious Blue Viper necklace almost twenty years before.

When Martin casually reveals they have a bust just like the missing one back in Saint-Sauver, treasure hunters, thieves and other assorted desperadoes start to descend on the quiet French town. Before long, murder follows, and Richard and Valérie find themselves investigating a mystery that has remained unsolved for decades.
