With St Moritz at its heart and the wild Lower Engadine to the east, this is a walking destination of extraordinary range, from gentle meadow and forest walks to strenuous high-level routes for experienced alpine walkers.

100 graded day walks ranging from 4 to 16km (2 to 10 miles) and taking 1 to 9 hours are described in this guidebook by Kev Reynolds, plus two multi-day treks: the Bregaglia Circuit and a traverse of the Swiss National Park. It combines clear route descriptions with detailed information on planning, mountain huts, and public transport to help you explore the very best of the Engadine.

• The 100 walks are organised across the Val Bregaglia, the Upper Engadine lakes region, Val Bernina, and the Lower Engadine including the Swiss National Park, ranging from short gentle rambles to strenuous alpine routes with scrambling
• The Bregaglia Circuit covers 65km (41 miles) over 6 to 7 days with a glacier crossing, while the Swiss National Park traverse covers 46km (29 miles) over 3 to 4 days
• Must-see highlights include the panoramic views from Tombal and Berghaus Diavolezza, Morteratsch glacier, and hut walks to the Coaz Hut, Tschierva Hut, and Boval Hut above Pontresina
