200 Years of Tippecanoe County: A Community Tells Its Stories presents the history of the community by the community. It is a celebration of the people, places, and events that have made Tippecanoe County what it is today, told by those who have called it home. Short articles with accompanying photos provide a fascinating glimpse into how our community has changed over the last two centuries. Readers will get to know the people who have lived here, including indigenous Native Americans, early European immigrants, African American community leaders, and Vietnamese refugees. Readers will be inspired by the stories of local entrepreneurs and inventors, scientists and schoolteachers, journalists and public servants—and learn how generations of Tippecanoe County residents have served their country in war and peace. Celebrate our area's rich history of music, literature, and art as you discover the stories behind events and institutions such as the Indiana Fiddlers' Gathering and the Haan Museum of Indiana Art, and relive exciting moments in local sports, from the debut of baseball in Lafayette to Purdue's 1967 Rose Bowl win.
