Fire on the Hillside

Katherine Haufmann has a secret friend, a Native American girl who belongs to the Comanche tribe feared by many of the German immigrants who live in Fredericksburg in 1847. During the peace negotiations, the settlers' children are alarmed by the fires built by the natives on the hillsides.
The spring of 1847 is approaching and Katherine Haufmann has just moved to Fredericksburg, Texas with her family from Germany. As she struggles to get used to her new home, 13-year-old Katherine becomes intrigued by the mysterious fires that start appearing in the nearby hills. While the rest of the town focuses on peace talks with the Comanche, Katherine decides to discover the cause of those fires.
