A Year of Play

A treasury of seasonal poems celebrating childhood wonder - for ages 2+ as a read-aloud, bedtime companion and a happy introduction to poetry

A Year of Play captures perfect moments of childhood delight – from seeing baby chicks on the farm to cherry-filled summer picnics, from autumn leaf-collecting to posting letters to Santa. This is a truly timeless celebration of childhood and the natural world, perfect for reading aloud, sharing together at bedtime, or using as a gentle introduction to poetry for children.

- A small child’s world is one of wonder and delight made up of small, perfect moments that they carry around with them in their pockets: pressing the keys on a piano, catching cherry blossoms, a cold drink on a hot day.

- And their days are made up of firsts – the first time they see the sea, their first snowman, the crunch-crunch-crunch feeling of autumn leaves beneath their shoes, fireworks bursting into life across a night sky.

- And their hands and feet planted in nature: the Pa-chip-chip-chip! of bird song, a yellow hello from a daffodil, the first frost…

All of this, and so much more, is captured by Tanya Rosie’s bright, musical poems – perfectly matched by Charlotte Voake’s expressive artwork filled with movement and joy.

A joyful tour through the four seasons!

- Poetry that is accessible for the littlest of readers for its bounce and read-aloud appeal, and joyfully nostalgic for parents and caregivers.
- Filled with glorious artwork by Charlotte Voake, known for her expressive, loose line and warm palette.

- Wide age-range appeal – ideal for ages 2+ as a read-aloud, bedtime companion and a happy introduction to poetry.
