Chief Inspector Andreas Kaldis is in over his head when he takes on a seemingly simple case that hides bigger players with murderous motives .

The beautiful Greek island of Lesvos sees its serenity turn into chaos as the world watches boatloads of refugees flee onto its shores from Turkey. And when Mihalis Volandes-the patriarch of a prominent shipping family, with a plan for shutting down the lucrative refugee trafficking pipeline-is struck down in his own garden with a sword, all eyes turn to Ali Sera, the refugee-turned-local aid worker who is found at the scene, splattered with the victim's blood.

He's immediately arrested by the local police and the case closed-but his American NGO boss, Dana McLaughlin, isn't convinced. She asks Chief Inspector Andreas Kaldis of Greece's Special Crimes Division to take over the investigation. Is Sera guilty or was he framed? Either way, Kaldis can't ignore a powerful motive for the murder.

Soon a nail-biting ride begins, with Kaldis and his team laboring through island politics, deteriorating diplomatic relations, and the intrigues and brutality of a resourceful and ruthlessly villainous narcissist, who doesn't shy away from murder .

With its gorgeous Greek locations, engaging characters, and fast-paced plotting, this critically acclaimed international crime series is an excellent pick for fans of DONNA LEON, LOUISE PENNY, MARTIN WALKER, and DAVID HEWSON. Find out why The New York Times named Jeffrey Siger as Greece's thriller novelist of record today!
