A wonderful tribute to all those who have loved the steam engine by railway photographer Eric Treacy.
Following Eric Treacy’s death in 1978, the demand for his books has increased. So insistent have been the demands of his fans that Portrait of Steam has been re-issued. Of this volume Eric Treacy originally said:‘Some will say that there is too much in this book; too much repetition. I agree, but I have been asked to include some of my better known pictures. This is a “Portrait” - an attempt to show the steam engine in every kind of setting and mood. It is an impression rather than a balanced selection.‘It is my tribute to all who have loved the steam engine; to those who have designed, built, maintained, cleaned, fired and driven the steam engine - that great kettle on wheels with its coal scuttle behind.’
