After James gets ambushed by a GIANT MUTANT SPIDER THINGY at the skatepark - and just about manages to fight it off (deck totally splattered) - he is invited to join the secret MONSTER HUNTER LEAGUE: competing in a BATTLE ROYALE against other kids, defeating monsters of increasing power that are mysteriously infiltrating his hometown. James uses his GigaTech console to track enemies, gaining XP after every victory, as well as weapons and gadgets to add his, okay, beginning to improve inventory: an ultra-hammer might be fine against a slimy horde of fang worms, but a taser claw might be necessary taking on the mysterious and definitely very large Monster Rex.

As the monster hunters gather for a special BONUS POINT HALLOWEEN MELEE, Monster Rex reveals her true identity - along with the plan she has for James. Only then does James fully realise. he has been the one hunted all along.
