Connor and his wife Morgan are starting a new life. Connor's uncle has died, and they've inherited his croft on an island in the Outer Hebrides. They leave Edinburgh, along with their dog Rumour, excited about the opportunities of a fresh start.

But it soon becomes clear, amongst these dark mountains and deep lochs, that there are people in the village who don't want them there, people who believe they deserve the land Connor and Morgan now till. People who will go to great lengths to make them leave.

When a wildfire erupts on the moors the simmering tensions in the village ignite, and Connor and Morgan find themselves harried by terrifying, nightly visitors. But are these attackers human, or is something more sinister, more ancient at work?
