To you, Hotel Associa Nagoya Terminal might look like an ordinary hotel in a central Japanese city. But it houses an extraordinary secret: twenty years ago, it was on the brink of bankruptcy and about to fold. An enormous corporate high-rise had been built around the corner and was eating up the last of its dwindling custom.

Faced with losing his business, the hotel's owner, Akio Shibata, resolved not to cut costs or jobs but to pour his time and energy into his employees. Little by little, he restored their spirits and set about creating a joyful community haven - and soon guests were coming in their droves to stay at the miraculous 'hotel of happiness'.
