These buildings and places have been left to slowly decay, no longer in use for their original purpose, but often the echoes of their former life can be seen. Their urban exploring reveals buildings associated with all walks of life, including hospitals, cinemas, churches, schools, factories and libraries. As the fortunes of Liverpool and the surrounding area rose and fell, industries such as shipbuilding flourished and declined, transport changed the face of the area, including railway infrastructure that came and went, and residential areas were rebuilt and changing demographics and ideas of care saw hospitals and asylums closed.
