Featuring a fun literacy or counting question/challenge at the bottom of each page of text relating to the accompanying picture, there is also a pictorial subplot (the cat appears in each illustration: what is it doing and why does it follow Klara?) to help children develop skills in line with the goals of Foundation Stages 1&2. There is also a life skills message as the book gently hints at the wisdom of thinking before acting whilst inviting children to give their own thoughts and opinions.
