Archaeologists Isadora Ross and Louise Morgenstern have been best friends for sixteen years. But ever since Lou went back on a promise, taking a once-in-a-lifetime job on a dig in Turkey and leaving Isi behind, their relationship has been teetering on a precipice.

Lou's back in town and Isi's avoiding her, struggling with her resentment and unrequited romantic feelings. To cope, she throws herself even further into the never-ending search for her mother, who went missing on a research trip in the mountains fourteen years ago.
