She describes the piety of the pilgrims who go on hands and knees from the port to the church to give thanks, or to petition the Virgin Mary. She writes about the great festivals to which invalids flock in the hope they will be cured. She also points out that the islanders once prayed to Poseiden, god of the sea, known on the island as the 'Doctor of Tinos'.
