In Calgary, they assist Superintendent Sam Steele of the N.W.M.P. in his inquiries, to track down "cattle thieves, whiskey smugglers, rogues and confidence men." On an exhilarating ride through Kicking Horse Pass, they share the cow catcher with Sarah Bernhardt, whose Vancouver performance of La Dame aux camélias is, writes Watson, "undoubtedly the most moving theatrical experience I have ever had."
