These essays discuss members of the "other" New York Jewish Intellectuals, men and women who lived in New York during the 1930s and 40s, and who wrote and worked in a different intellectual circle from the one inhabited by those known as the New York Jewish Intellectuals.

Irving Howe. Saul Bellow. Lionel Trilling. These are names that immediately come to mind when one thinks of the New York Jewish intellectuals of the late thirties and forties.
And yet the New York Jewish intellectual community was far larger and more diverse than is commonly thought.
