An illustrated history of the Porsche 911 from 1973 to 1989. Includes the 911 2.7, the Carrera RS 3.0, the Turbo 3.0 and 3.3, the Carrera 3.0 and 3.2, the SC, and 954 SCRS.
Porsche unveiled the 911G in late 1973. The car represented a significant visual departure from its predecessors, most noticeably due to the inclusion of impact bumpers. Updates from 1974 through 1989 (when the 911 was replaced by the 964) were more incremental. So subtle that although Porsche referred to these cars with various different letter designations internally, the general public came to know the cars delivered between 1974 and 1989 as the "G Series" or "G model."
This is a technically detailed and vividly illustrated history of the Porsche 911 during this period. After a concise description of the G model's predecessors, the narrative dives into the various sub variants of so-called G series. This includes the 911 2.7, the Carrera RS 3.0, the Turbo 3.0 and 3.3, the Carrera 3.0 and 3.2, the SC, 954 SCRS, and finally a more distant relative of the 911G, the 959 supercar.
From there, author Tony Corlett describes the car's individual components, options, and driving dynamics. Finally, the manuscript includes a robust selection of charts and data tables containing production information. These include lists of chassis numbers, equipment package codes, colors, price lists, and much more. The text is accompanied throughout by several hundred dramatic color images.
