Thomas Borchert, der Anwalt ohne Lizenz, erhält die anonyme Nachricht „Franz Brosi ist unschuldig …“. Als er seiner Mitarbeiterin Dominique Kuster von der Nachricht erzählt, berichtet sie ihm, dass Brosi ihr erster Mandant als Pflichtverteidigerin war und dieser wegen Mordes an einen jungen Banker in Haft sitzt. Die Nachricht gibt aber auch Kuster zu denken, denn Brosi selbst hat die Tat ohne Zweifel gestanden und lehnt damals wie heute jegliche sträfliche Milderung ab. Die Ermittlungen führen Borchert und Kuster zum Kloster.
