With his album Re-Inventions, percussionist and composer Rupert Struber aims to showcase as wide a range as possible of percussion instruments. With his album Re-Inventions, percussionist Rupert Struber aims to showcase as wide a range as possible of percussion instruments, along with their sonical, technical and musical possibilities. His goal was to transform 'noise' and 'sounds' into music through articulation, phrasing and expression. The musical spetrum ranges from his own compositions to classics and key works of the percussion repertoire, right through to pieces that are as rather little known, bringing together the timbres of around 100 instruments. Austrian percussionist and composer Rupert Struber studied at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg with Peter Sadlo and at the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna (MUK) with Anton Mittermayr. He has won several competitions, including first prize and the audience prize at the International Percussion Competition Luxembourg in 2005. Solo performances followed at the Salzburg Festival, the Schwetzingen Festival, the Hong Kong Drum Festival, the International Percussion Convention Taipei, the Shanghai Arts Festival, the Festival Echternach Luxembourg, the Sommerliche Musiktage Hitzacker, and Wien Modern, among others.
