Haddonfield, Illinois, 1963. Am Morgen nach Halloween wandert der gerade einmal sechsjährige Michael Myers in Sicherheitsverwahrung ins Smith's Grove-Warren County Sanitarium, nachdem er seine große Schwester grausam mit einem Küchenmesser ermordet hat. 15 Jahre später gelingt Michael der Ausbruch. Dr. Sam Loomis, der Michael psychiatrisch betreut hat, vermutet dessen Rückkehr an den Tatort, fährt sofort nach Haddonfield und warnt Sheriff Leigh Brackett … doch die drei hübschen Babysitterinnen Laurie, Annie und Lynda ahnen nicht, was ihnen in der bevorstehenden Halloweennacht blühen wird.
