Im Wiener Revue-Theater Casanova begegneten sie einander Ende der 40er-Jahre: Peter Wehle, zweifacher Doktor, Kapellmeister, Komponist, Autor, Kabarettist und Humorist aus Leidenschaft. Und Gerhard Bronner, ein junger Musiker und Texter, der gerade aus Palästina zurückgekehrt war.
Es begann eine 38-jährige Zusammenarbeit, die dem Nachkriegsösterreich eine Reihe von Kabarettklassikern bescherte: Programme wie „Brettl vor'm Kopf“, „Glasl vor'm Aug“ oder „Hackl im Kreuz“. Und schließlich „Die wilden Fünfziger“, ein „launiger Geschichtsunterricht mit Gesang und Tanz“.
