Dolph Lundgren is de held He-Man in deze live-action verfilming van de populaire tvcartoon- serie. He-Man vecht tegen zijn duistere aartsvijand Skeletor (Frank Langella) voor de dominantie in het universum. Skeletor wil o.a. de planeet Eternia, een verwoest Utopia, veroveren. Om dit te bereiken heeft hij de ‘Cosmic Key nodig, die verborgen is op aarde. Een serveerster genaamd Julie (Courteney Cox) en haar vriend Kevin (Robert Duncan Mitchell) vinden per ongeluk de Cosmic Key en raken verwikkeld in de intergalactische strijd tussen He-Man en Skeletor.
