The series shows, on the basis of this authentic archive images of the harsh realities of war up close again. Apocalypse World War II includes, among others, rare recordings of the Katyn massacre in Russia, the evacuation of the British Expeditionary Force from Dunkirk, the inhumane treatment of French soldiers who were captured by the Nazis and sacrifice of Soviet soldiers at Stalingrad.
