The first two sporting dramas starring Kuno Becker as footballer Santiago Munez. In 'Goal!' (2005), having crossed the Mexican border into America at the age of ten with only two things in his possession - his football and a tattered picture of the World Cup - Santiago has been working menial jobs in Los Angeles ever since, while in his spare time indulging his passion for playing football. When Glen Foy (Stephen Dillane), an amiable former football player and sometime scout, spots Santiago at a local match, he recognises a deft, fast and brave footballer - the kind of talent that the English Premier League club, Newcastle United, is hungry for. In 'Goal 2' (2007), Real Madrid beckons for the Toon Army's favourite player, Santiago Munez. While his fiancee Roz (Anna Friel) plans their wedding in Newcastle, he realises every footballer's dream and gets to wear the legendary white shirt alongside David Beckham, Zinedine Zidane and Raul. Santiago basks in the glory, the acclaim and the money, only for this illusion of happiness to be shattered as he discovers the ugly face of success and begins to lose his career, his friends and most importantly, Roz.
