Remake van de legendarische horrorfilm uit 1978.

Tijdens ‘spring break' zorgt een lichte aardbeving ervoor dat de bodem van een meer openbreekt waardoor er plots honderden prehistorische piranha's vrijkomen. Uitgerekend aan dit meer vinden er juiste wilde bikini feestjes plaats. De piranha’s veroorzaken een bloedbad onder de feestgangers. Een groepje jongeren probeert onder leiding van sherrif Julie Forester (Elisabeth Shue) de bijtgrage vissen een halt toe te roepen.
